Despite lead single Disease stalling on the Hot 100 at No.
27, the 38-year-old is forging ahead with her next album,
which she described as both ‘fun’ and ‘darker.’
Speaking to Vogue magazine about the project, Gaga said that she’s been focused on the production side
of her new songs.
‘I love producing — I always have — and something that was really important to me making my seventh studio album was blending live instrumentation with programming,’ she explained.
‘The album is chaotic from a genre perspective — it is genre-bending, and I think in that
way is a deeply personal look into my mind as a producer and the way I think about music.’
She also said that the album has a ‘darker pop’ sound
that’s more in line with her iconic 2009 album,
The Fame Monster.
However, fans need not be worried that Gaga is going too somber with her sound.
‘The album is not extremely serious in that it’s very fun and meant to be enjoyed at a party, in a club,
or at home having personal fun time — to be free of your worries at home or walking through life,’ she insisted.
Lady Gaga is focused on releasing her seventh studio album this February following the disappointing reception to lead
single Disease
Gaga released the album’s lead single Disease last month to rave reviews from
music critics, who lauded it as a return to the star’s roots.
Unfortunately, the acclaim failed to translate to the charts,
with Disease debuting at No. 27 on the Hot 100 – her worst entry for a lead single in 16 years.
On the bright side, Gaga is currently enjoying one of her biggest hits in years thanks to her
Bruno Mars duet, Die With a Smile.
The ballad has so far reached No. 2 on the Hot 100 and No.
1 on the Pop Airplay Chart.

TOKYO, Dec 10 (Reuters) – Nippon Life Insurance is in the final stages of buyout talks with U.S.
life insurer Resolution Life Group Holdings, Resolution said on Tuesday, in what would reportedly be a
$8.2 billion deal that highlights Japanese insurers’ hunt for growth in the world’s biggest economy.
The acquisition, which was first reported by the Nikkei business
daily, would be worth around $8.2 billion, the newspaper said.
If the deal goes ahead, it will be the largest ever
foreign acquisition by a Japanese insurer.
Nippon Life will purchase the shares it does not already own in Resolution Life
from Blackstone and others to make it a wholly owned subsidiary in the second half of 2025 and will
pay for the acquisition with cash on hand, the Nikkei said.
The deal is the latest example of heavyweight Japanese insurance companies going abroad in search of acquisitions in faster-growing markets, given the limited chance for expansion at home where the population is
shrinking and ageing.
Bermuda-based Resolution Life confirmed it was in talks about the acquisition but added that these had
not concluded and there was no certainty that a transaction would proceed.
A spokesperson for Nippon Life said the company was in talks with Resolution Life,
but added it could not disclose what the discussions were
about.
Blackstone declined to comment on the Nikkei report
The acquisition would mark Nippon Life’s second major overseas investment this year, following its $3.8
billion purchase of a 20% stake in U.S. insurance firm Corebridge Financial in May.
It has also sought to diversify its domestic business, buying nursing care provider Nichii Holdings for 1.4 billion in November last year, but it has lagged other
Japanese insurers in U.S. acquisitions.
Property and casualty insurer Tokio Marine Holdings
bought speciality insurer HCC Insurance Holdings for $7.5
billion in 2015, paid $2.7 billion in 2011 for Delphi Financial and bought Philadelphia Consolidated for $4.7 billion in 2008.
Cross-border M&A involving Japanese companies has surged
this year
, driven by amended guidelines designed to encourage takeovers
of Japanese firms.
Japanese firms also are continuing to look abroad for
growth as their domestic market shrinks.

Dec 2 (Reuters) – Philip Morris will reach its target
of 50% sales from smoke-free products by 2025 through organic revenue growth rather than mergers and acquisitions, its CEO told Reuters.
The maker of Marlboro cigarettes has spent more than $8 billion on reduced risk products since it began developing them a decade
ago, Chief Executive Jacek Olczak said in an interview during
the Reuters Next conference.
About 30% of revenue at Philip Morris now comes from « smoke-free » products such as
iQOS tobacco heating devices, Olczak added on Thursday.
Philip Morris has also set a target of generating $1 billion in sales from non-nicotine products
by 2025 as part of its evolution website into a broader « healthcare and wellness » company.
« The way we look at these targets, we achieved the current 30% organically and I believe we can get to 50% by continuing this organic growth, » Olczak said, adding:
« Our $1 billion target of achieving sales from non-nicotine products we can also to a very large extent achieve organically. »
Olczak’s comments come nearly two months after Philip Morris bought British inhaler-maker Vectura, a
deal which faced opposition from public health experts
who questioned whether a tobacco group should own a company that
cures the respiratory illnesses which cigarettes cause.
Asked if he was surprised by the backlash, Olczak said there were « a few voices of criticism » and that he expected « negative emotions » to
fade as Vectura launches products over the next few years that will address unmet patient and consumer needs.
Since it was announced in July, critics have put concerted pressure on shareholders
and the government to block the deal.
In August, a group of more than 35 health charities, experts and doctors across the world wrote website to shareholders over the
damaging effect tobacco has on United Nations sustainable development goals, following up
with a letter to the British government to look at conflict of
interest issues in September.
